THE 3 V's OF BIG DATA

VOLUME In relation to social media, Volume refers to the amount of data generated through websites, portals and applications. According to B2C businesses, volume enlarges the available data that is out there and it needs to be assessed for relevance. Facebook has 2 billion users, Youtube has 1 billion users, Twitter has 350 million users and Instagram has 700 million users. Each day users contribute billions of posts, pictures, videos, tweets etc and an insanely large amount or volume of data is generated every minute of the day. VELOCITY Velocity refers to the speed at which data is being generated. Everyday 900 million photos are uploaded on Facebook, 500 million tweets are posted on Twitter, 0.4 million hours of video are uploaded on Youtube and 3.5 billion searches are performed in Google. WHAT IS BIG DATA?

Big data is a term used to describe a huge collection of data which grows exponentially with time. Such data is so large and complex that traditional data management tools arent able to store and process it efficiently. Few examples of Big Data  1. The New York Stock Exchange generates nearly one terabyte of new trade data per day. 2. Facebook gets 500+ terabytes of new data ingested into their database everyday. Those data are mainly generated in terms of images, videos uploads, messages and comments. 3. A jet engine can generate 10+ terabytes  of data during a flight time of just 30 minutes. With thousands of flights per day, the generation of data goes upto many petabytes. Three types of Big Data Structured Data that can be stored, accessed and processed in any form of a fixed format is called a structured data.
